  In this video, we take a look at some of the inbuilt software of the Verizon Motorola Droid X, plus put the device head-to-head with the iPhone 4 and Google Nexus One running on Froyo. To start, the Droid X has some neat applications built in. You can use the 3G mobile hotspot app, but it's going to cost you $20 extra on your bill, plus there is a 2GB data cap. You can expect to get speeds similar to what a MiFi would bring, so about 1.5mbps down, and about 1mbps up. We talk briefly about the DLNA support which allows you to integrated multiple supported devices for multimedia playback. It's still unclear as to whether this standard will be popular, but a lot of new TVs and smartphones are coming with the standard built in. Then we do a web browser comparison against the iPhone 4 and Nexus One with Froyo. The results? The Droid X beat both devices most of the time in terms of page load times, which is great too see, and reflects the overall robust performance of the Droid X. Also, having the larger screen made web browsing more immersive.

All four browsers are using hardware acceleration (I think; not sure about Opera), but you can clearly see Firefox and IE9 beating Opera and Chrome (by some margin!)   In this video I show you how to change the new tab pages in Google Chrome to display a website that you specify. It makes a welcome change as the speed dial in Google Chrome is not very customisable and it only displays your history or recently closed websites. I highly recommend that you set it as your home page. It seems to function much better that way, but the website you choose is up to you.   This extension adds a button to Chrome that lets you seamlessly pushes links, maps, and currently selected text and phone numbers to your Android device. You also need to install the Chrome to Phone Android application on your phone. The application can be downloaded from Market (search for 'Chrome to Phone'). Requires a mobile phone running Android 2.2 ("Froyo") or later. The Android app is currently only available in English in the following countries: US, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa. Equipment used: - Computer: MacBook Pro laptop with Windows installed - Monitor - 24" Asus: We had to replace the standard fluorescent backlight with very large tungsten fixtures to funnel in more light to capture the screen. In addition, we flipped the monitor 180 degrees to eliminate a shadow from the driver board and set the system preferences on the computer to rotate 180 degrees. No special software was used in this process. - Camera: Phantom v640 High Speed Camera at 1920 x 1080, films up to 2700 fps "Why does allrecipes.com in the potato gun sequence appear at once, and not the text first and images second? And why does it appear to render from bottom of the screen to the top?" Chrome sends the rendered page to the video card buffer all at once, which is why allrecipes.com appears at once, and not with the text first and images second. Chrome actually paints the page from top to bottom, but to eliminate a shadow from the driver board, we had to flip the monitor upside down and set the system preferences in Windows to rotate everything 180 degrees, resulting in the page appearing to render from bottom to top.
